The NCAR-Wyoming Supercomputing Center (NWSC) opened its doors in Cheyenne, Wyoming, in 2012. Since then, more than 4,000 users from more than 575 universities and other institutions across the nation and overseas have used its advanced computing and data storage resources for research in the Earth system sciences. The center is maintained and staffed by the NCAR Computational & Information Systems Lab (CISL) as part of CISL's mission to support and advance the geosciences with world-class computing, data management, and research in computational science. Scientists around the county have used NCAR to study phenomena ranging from weather and climate to wildflowers, seismic activity, and airflows that generate power at wind farms.
