From Crisis to Catalyst: Affordable Housing, Transit Access, and Walkable Communities

Midway, a small community in northwestern Wasatch County, Utah, has experienced significant population growth, reaching over 6,300 residents by 2020—a nearly 60% increase since 2010. Projections suggest an 84% increase by 2050. However, this rapid growth has led to housing affordability challenges, especially for essential workers, whose services underpin the town's functioning. In response, Midway, in partnership with the Mountainland Association Government, initiated a planning study to expand housing options, focusing on essential service workers, improving walking and biking paths and access to transit, aiming to foster a more balanced and sustainable community.
