SESSION

Promoting Housing Development on the High Plains: Garden City, KS Comprehensive Plan

Beyond the housing shortages and affordability issues facing larger cities across the West, these same housing issues have impacted cities large and small across the High Plains and other rural areas across the West. This session will provide a case study on how Garden City, Kansas, a multi-cultural regional hub in Southwest Kansas, is pursuing new strategies to bring urgently needed housing to the community. The session will focus on the creation of Garden City's new Comprehensive Plan, adopted in 2023, and also highlight actions taken by the City government and the city/county economic development department to more actively promote housing development and construction.
