Mark Voss is the Laramie County Attorney. He previously served as the Deputy Laramie County Attorney from 1998 to 2006, when he was appointed as the County Attorney. The Laramie County Attorney’s Office represents all Laramie County agencies and elected officials, including the Sheriff’s Department and County Coroner. It prosecutes criminal cases at the request of the District Attorney as well as zoning and other misdemeanor criminal actions and handles all actions for involuntary commitment/ Title 25 actions. Mr. Voss has acted in over 1000 involuntary commitment actions in his 18 years with the County Attorney’s office. Areas in which the office practices include contested administrative cases, tax, employment law, land use and planning matters and tort litigation in defense of the County. The Office also provides legal counsel to the Cheyenne/Laramie County Health Department.
Prior to entering the County Attorney’s office he was the lead trial counsel for the Cheyenne Office of the Wyoming State Public Defender 1994-98, litigating criminal matters throughout the State of Wyoming, including multiple death penalty cases. Mr. Voss’ legal career includes service as a prosecutor for the City Attorney’s Office in Denver Colorado and the directorship of a large volume public defense office in Everett Washington. In all aspects of his legal career, issues of mental illness and the systems designed to address it in society have been constant players.
He is luckily and happily married in spite of the fact that he has been described as, “Having one foot in madness and the other on a banana-peel.” He is uncertain as to a favorite color and contrary to all evidence, believes mankind and all its works to be perfectible, except for rap music, lawyers and the Chia pet. A favorite quote is:
“Common sense and a sense of humor are the same thing, moving at different speeds.”
